Another
incident brought on by the dreaded bushytail has me worried. This is the
third story in the past six months that has appeared in the newspaper
here in Owensboro, Ky. This is very disturbing. I need backup here in
the Western KY DIV!
Squirrel
causes power outage
From staff
reports
Messenger-Inquirer
A squirrel
is the likely culprit of a brief power outage Friday, April 17, 1998,
for about 1,200 people in the Trinity Hills and Triplett Street area in
Owensboro.
About 8 p.m. Thursday, a squirrel got into a "pot head," where
an underground cable is connected to regular cable on a utility pole,
causing lights to blink, said Jody Wassmer, Owensboro Municipal Utilities
spokesman.
On Friday at 8:51 a.m., there was an underground fault, or problem, with
the wiring that again sent lights in that area blinking and the electricity
went out for five minutes for the 1,200 customers, Wassmer said. About
a dozen customers had no power for a longer period as the pot head was
replaced, he said. All power was restored by 11 a.m.
Friday's outage was attributed to damage caused thursday night by the
squirrel.
